iTheater 0.2.0 re-released

After pulling the initial release of iTheater 0.2.0, they have address the major issues that were discovered, and have re-released the media center application. This release features multi-monitor support and menu-preferences support.

We had some time to tinker with this latest release, and we didn't discover any issues with the new features. The menu-preferences is an improved and more logical solution then only having access through the system preferences. We did experience a few set backs. The photo playback is still not working, and the play/pause doesn't always respond using the apple remote. Its a good thing iTheater has keyboard actions as well. The team is aware of these issues as they are also noted in the release notes. Personally, we can't wait for the update system to be active.

You can no download the 0.2 version from their SourceForge space. Total version is 3.5MB.

iTheater 0.2 released (and then pulled)

UPDATE:0.2 has been pulled due to a glitch in new installations. The iTheater team is working hard to resolve the problem and get 0.2 back up. We'll keep you posted!

iTheater reached version 0.2 this morning. The latest release features two features that were requested from their user base. The iTheater team has been working around the clock to keep new releases coming, and address any bugs or errors which need to be worked out during this beta process. The current version is available for download.

The first being Multiple Monitor support, which is huge for us using an Apple Notebook. Now you can choose to display the media center app on your main or secodnary screen. This is great for presentations. Set this preference in the preference panel (duh!)

The second is iTheater Menu bar... this is pretty explanatory. Right? Well it helps with quicker access to the iTheater Preferences and keyboard short cuts.

Future updates include System Update, which will allow iTheater to detect the latest version and download it automatically. Sparkle the application behind this is already i successful use with Adium.

iTheater is a Mac Media Center application started before Apple's FrontRow hit the destops. Current iTheater features include DVD, Video_TS playback, Video, Music, Photos, and Widgets. The application is Universal for both Intel and IBM Macintosh based machines. If you would like to get involved, iTheater is always looking for talented people to join their team.

iTheater 0.1.4 in the Wild...
As promised, iTheater 0.1.4 was released today. From the basic user many of the new features will not be apparent right away. The latest release is more focused on application development. The application architecture now contains a framework API, 3rd Party Plug in Support and Module support. Basic users will notice the new tabbed interface in the preferences, and shutdown and start up transitions.

Giving it our quick testing, we noticed the interface is still just as fast and responsive as before. The interface is sleek and we are looking forward to the potential 3rd party modules that may be developed.

The application downloads at 5.9 MB, which includes the installer, and new uninstaller. You can get it here at their sourceforge download center.

iTheater needs your help...

It is iTheater Idol time, minus the rude guy in black with the accent. But seriously folks, if your one of those people complaining about the sad state of MacHTPC software options now is the time to lend a hand.

Ben over at iTheater is about ready to release version 0.1.4 by the end of the month. The new modular implementation is making development far easier, however they still need developers to work on the core modules.

iTheater is one of the promising HTPC software solutions out there. Arguably iTheater has the cleanest interface, and the greatest potential when it comes to plug-ins and extras.

What do we need?
We need people, who want to work on these modules,
  • Music Module (developer that would supplant our main developer in the future)
  • Images
  • Weather
  • DVD
  • Apple Remote
  • Movies (co-developers, to help our main developers)

If you want to get involved please email ben@itheaterproject.com for the details.
