Intoducing MediaFork 0.8 beta

February 13, 2007   0 Comments
Every few weeks I check for updates on my favorite Software titles. Handbrake, the #1 DVD Ripper on the Mac, has gone without an update for a long while. Enter MediaFork. As they say "Old open source projects never die, they just get new names", and I am pleased to report MediaFork is taking over.

MediaFork 0.8.0 (Beta 1) introduces full 640x480 iPod Video, Anamorphic Encoding and faster versions of x264 and ffmpeg. This is something I've noticed, comparing Hand Brake 0.7 vs 0.8.

To go along with the new name, new version and improvements the MediaFork team has set up forums.

New in this release:
  • Updated libraries
  • iPod 5.5G support
  • Revamped graphical interface
  • Anamorphic encoding with pixel aspect ratio
  • Brighter color reproduction in QuickTime
  • Lists disks by DVD name instead of by drive name
  • Titles output movies based on the DVD name
  • Constant rate factor encoding with x264
